Summer Program

Meet the Staff

PROGRAM...

The Woodbury Youth Orchestra is open to any young musician, elementary through twelfth grade, who plays an orchestral instrument. Students audition for placement and are placed into one of two orchestral ensembles.

ENSEMBLES

Philharmonic Orchestra is a string orchestra that focuses on the basics of ensemble playing and following a conductor. Students will participate in sectional and full ensemble rehearsals. This group is for advanced beginner to intermediate level players.

Symphony Orchestra consists of strings, winds, brass, and percussion. This ensemble explores the sounds of the full orchestra with challenging repertoire. Rehearsals for this ensemble will consist of sectionals, as well as full orchestra. Repertiore includes many classic and orgional works.

Chamber ensembles New this year! Chamber ensembles will be formed from the woodwind, brass, and percussion sections of the Symphony Orchestra. These select, small groups will perform at each concert. This is an uncommon opportunity, provided by the WYO, for our winds and percussionists to have a greater role and to gain more performance experience.

REHEARSALS

Weekly rehearsals are held on Monday evening at Woodbury Jr. High in Woodbury Rehearsals are from 6:30-8:30 for all string players in both ensembles. Woodwind, brass, and percussion students rehearse from 7:30-9:30. Attendance at all rehearsals is required unless prior arrangements have been made with the conductor.

SCHEDULE & PERFORMANCES

In addition to the regular season concerts, the orchestral ensembles are also in growing demand for community performances, and any additional performances or playing opportunities will be announced at the beginning of each season.

ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITIES

In addition to weekly rehearsals, the WYO schedule offers enrichment opportunities during the season. Students also have the opportunity to perform in a small chamber ensemble. These chamber ensembles often have the opportunity to perform within the surrounding communities.

POLICIES

All participants in the WYO program are expected to uphold the program's policies to ensure a quality program for all.
