Attendance

  • Attend all scheduled rehearsals and performances.
  • Be prepared and prompt. The success of any musician begins with an adequate warm-up. You are asked to arrive at least 15 minutes before each rehearsal. During this time, members should tune, warm up, and be ready to start each rehearsal on time.
  • Two excused absences are allowed each semester for any rehearsal EXCEPT the final dress rehearsal and performances.
    • use a printed WYO absence notification form, due to WYO administration at least one week before the absence.
    • Last minute emergencies may be reported by phone to (651) 255-6772, no later than 4PM on the day of rehearsal. The telephone call must be followed up with a printed WYO absence notification form.
    • Excessive absences may be grounds for dismissal from the orchestra, as it takes the presence of all members in order to have a successful rehearsal.
    • School concerts take precedence over WYO rehearsal. Follow the procedures above.
  • Parent attendance: For those participating in the Beginner group, a parent/guardian is required to attend and participate in each rehearsal. Parent participation is also encouraged for Da Capo members, especially in the case of younger musicians.

Music

  • Music and folders are signed out for the semester.
  • Members are responsible for keeping music in good condition.
  • Only regular black PENCIL may be used to write on music, and markings must be erased before music is returned to WYO library.
  • A fine of $10 will b assessed for each piece of music which is lost or deemed unusable by WYO administration.
  • LISTENING: Members are strongly encouraged to listen on their own to recordings of works being rehearsed. Developing listening skills is important in musicianship. Ask your conductor for a list of resources for purchasing or borrowing recordings.

Behavior

  • WYO members are expected to uphold the rules of behavior. Failure to do so may result in a reevaluation of membership.
  • Respect Property: Members are to act responsibly in the use of all facilities for rehearsals and concerts. At no time will food or drink be permitted in rehearsal unless it is distributed by the directors.
  • Respect Yourself and Others: Members are expected to treat others with respect and courtesy. Positive attitude and effort required.

School Music Programs/ Private Lessons

  • Private lessons are strongly encouraged for all members.
  • School music teachers and WYO administration can provide you with a list of resources for finding private teachers.
  • We ask that private teachers assist WYO members in working through difficult sections of orchestra music.

Parent Participation

  • WYO parents are requested to participate as chaperones for rehearsal once each semester. (Assist with set-up/tear-down of rehearsals, distribute lost music, ensure that all WYO members are picked up after rehearsal, help take care of any problems that may arise during rehearsal.)
  • Attend parent committee meetings.
  • Communicate thoughts, ideas, concerns, ask questions, give feedback, inform us of things we need to know, let us know how things are going for you and your child.
  • Assist with other volunteer duties that may arise.

Weather

  • In the event of dangerous weather conditions, an announcement concerning rehearsal/concert cancellations will be reported on WCCO radio (830 AM). Also, a recorded message concerning cancellation of rehearsal will be available on the WYO phone line (651/255-6772) after 3pm on the day of rehearsal. Cancelled rehearsals will not be rescheduled.

Dress Code

  • Students are asked to dress appropriately for all rehearsal.
  • Concert Dress:
Men: Black dress pants, white shirt
    Black dress shoes, dark socks
Women: Floor/ankle length black skirt or dress pants
    white blouse, black dress shoes.
